Volunteer
Event Descriptions
We rely on our parent
volunteers to help ensure the success of our memory-making events. The
following are brief descriptions of PTSO events. If you have any questions

Arts Masterpiece
(monthly)
Volunteers are given
FULL instruction to lead art classes in the classroom. Volunteers schedule
classes directly with the teachers.
Book Fair (fall &
spring)
Book sales are held in
the School Library. Volunteers are needed to set up, clean up, assist
student shoppers and run the cash registers.
Box Tops/Easy Money
Programs (all year)
Chairperson makes
initial contact with vendors to get programs up and running and oversees all
easy money programs.
(Fry’s. Basha’s,
Albertson’s, etc.) Volunteers are needed to collect, tally, and cut-out box
tops.
Campbell’s Labels (all
year)
Volunteers are needed
to collect, tally, and cut-out labels.
Carnival (spring)
This event is held on
a Saturday in March. Volunteers are needed to make posters, solicit
donations, set up, clean up, work game booths, sell concessions, and run or
supervise rides. There are several jobs that can be done from your home in
the months leading up to carnival day. This is our largest event and
requires over 200 volunteers on carnival day!
Daddy/Daughter Dinner
Dance (February)
This is a memorable
event held over two weekends in February.
Volunteers are needed
to decorate the gym, solicit donations, prepare/serve food, take photos,
take tickets, and clean up. This it NOT a fundraiser.
Fall Fundraiser
(September)
This is the PTSO’s
main fundraiser of the year. Volunteers are needed to pass out and collect
packets, count money when packets come in, and distribute merchandise when
it arrives.
Family Fun Days/Nights
(all year)
These are our monthly
Wildcat days/nights out at local businesses. Frontier earns a percentage of
the money spent at the establishment on the specified days/nights. A
volunteer is needed to contact local businesses to organize events and
generate PTSO fliers for distribution advertising the events.
Guy’s Night Out (TBD)
This is a night out at
a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game for Dads & their sons. Volunteers are needed
to help organize the event. This is NOT a fundraiser!
Health Screening
(October)
This is a
state-mandated event which is coordinated through the Nurse’s office.
Children K-6 are tested for hearing and vision. Height, weight and blood
pressure may also be recorded. Volunteers will be trained to test children
and record the results. This event typically takes place over 2-3 days.

Holiday Movie Night
(November/December)
This is a family movie
night in the multi-purpose room. Volunteers are needed to help organize the
event as well as help set up, work a food booth and help clean up. This is
NOT a fundraiser.
Honor Roll
Celebrations
This event occurs
three times a year for our honor roll students. (Grades 5-8) Volunteers are
needed to set up, clean up, and arrange for each celebration.
Ladies Only (TBD)
This is an outing for
Moms & their daughters. Volunteers are needed to help organize the event.
This is NOT a fundraiser.
Mother/Son Bowling
(October/November)
This is a really fun
event for Moms & their sons held over two weekends in the fall. Volunteers
are needed to collect forms, prepare & distribute tickets, take photos, and
solicit donations for prizes to raffle.
This is NOT a
fundraiser.
Photocopying (all
year)
Volunteers are needed
throughout the year for copying the Wildcat Tales, our school’s monthly
newsletter. This usually takes place the last week of each month.
Reading Program (all
year)
Read Naturally
is a program designed to give fluency practice to children who may be having
trouble academically. Volunteers will be given adequate training and
support and will choose how many days a month or week they wish to commit to
each 30-minute tutoring session.
Take Me Out To the
Ball Game (September)
This is a family event
at an Arizona Diamondbacks Game! Volunteers are needed to help organize the
event. This is NOT a fundraiser!
Teacher Appreciation
Chairperson schedules
full luncheons 3X a year and smaller monthly appreciations. Volunteers are
needed to donate/prepare food, set up and clean up.
Turkey Trot (November)
This fun exercise
event is put on by the P.E. Department. Volunteers coordinate the
collection of donated pies used for prizes & help pass out prizes.
Volunteer Binder (all
year)
A volunteer is needed
to count the volunteer hours logged into the volunteer binder by the 10th
of each month.
Wildcat Wish Tree
(November-December)
Volunteers are needed
to organize a gift drive for local families in need.
Chairpersons are responsible for
organizing their event, generating fliers, calling volunteers to work/help
with the event and keeping the members of the PTSO board informed. A list
of volunteers is provided to each chairperson by the Volunteer Coordinator.
If a chairperson needs additional volunteers, he or she is responsible for
contacting the Volunteer Coordinator. |
